Shifted

Gazing
I watched colors swirl
and fade blue to plum
and black
and back
as they've always
done
Shifted
I see brightness dance
and play crimson with orange
and emerald
with yellow
in a familiar
way

How did I miss this for so long?

Winter

Amidst the ruckus of
civilization,
a silent blanket of white
drapes the earth,
soothing
even the most tumultuous
of souls.

Life With(out) Poetry

Without

Grass is green.
Dew is wet.

The sky is blue.
The sun sets.

She smiles.
The rose opens.
With

The dew-drop-covered slivers
of emerald green shimmer
in the light.

Blue and white transform into
pinks and purples, as the
sun sinks low.

The slow-unfolding petals
of the rose coax from
her a smile.

Random Haikus

slow and silently
gliding across the blue sky
piles of white cotton

a golden ribbon
snakes along the edge of white
a silver lining

crunch crunch is the sound
that echoes in the silence
walking in the snow

the haiku fairy
will visit Leah tonight
insp'ration galore

glistening bodies
of gray and white playfully
show us dolphin glee

the ocean thirsts for
uses its wet tongue to
lap at the seashore

above the rushing
pounding crashing waters is
peaceful rising mist

willingly water
flows toward the nearing edge
reckless abandon

ocean breeze whispers
softly through my hair quiet
secrets of the deep

rolling cresting now
the waves reach for sandy feet
but come up just short

loud as a water-
fall in his mind was the tear
that rolled from her eye

Raindrop

Plit!

A
bulbous
globe of shifting
glass plunges, warping
the world on the other
side — forgotten amidst
the rush of millions
just like it

View from the Side of the Road

Shhhhhhhhooo! Shhhhhhhhaah!
Heated rubber spins, hungrily searching for its next bite of asphalt.
The road lies in surrender to the growling, metal beasts.
It gives tirelessly, yet never ceases to taunt with more.

Uncapturable

The artist swishes his brush.
The camera adjusts and clicks.
Neither quite captures
the radiant beauty
that the sun paints
across     the     clouds.

The Eye Haikus

Tiny pools, crystal
Blue - pulling me in deeper
Your eyes mesmerize

Sparkling, laughing,
Dancing with mine, transfixed by
Your emerald eyes

Softly searching mine
Warm and sweet, I get lost in
Your chocolate eyes

Shafts of blue and brown
And green surround, as I gaze
Held close in your eyes

Sitting on a Train Leaving Chicago at 5pm

Tired people sit still in silence
arranged and neatly stacked
in rows of four and columns of two.
Each row follows madly the one ahead of it,
whisking its passengers away from the city of wind.
Worn faces look mostly down or nowhere at all,
while heads bob and sway.
Flashes of light appear and slide and disappear,
but no one notices.

First Grade

I heard the crack
      and saw jagged edges
      poking the air.
A tear traced my little
     cheek and hung from
     my trembling chin.

I broke my pencil.

I Love You

Betrayed!
With a kiss my brother sentenced me.
All my friends fled from me,
but one.

Hated by the crowd I loved,
lied about,
spit on,
slapped and hit,
I held my peace.

Faintly, I heard it.
The one friend still close
had left me.
The rooster crowed, pulling a tear
from
my
eye.

The mighty roar sealed my fate.
These people I loved condemned me.
For all the good I did
they hated me.

Led away, I followed silently.

Agony spilled from my mouth
The first drops of blood
ran down
my back,
as the whip ripped through my skin.

Thunk! Thunk!

They spiked my hands to wood.

Thunk! Thunk!

They spiked my feet, and lifted me
up to die.

I hang
here, now,
watching the people that did this.
These people that I love so much
Watching you.
Yes, you helped.
You hung me here with your sin.

It's okay.
I let you do it.
I had to.
I love you.

The Sound of Peace

Peace
still water glistening
diamonds catching sunlight
flinging it towards me
raindrops settling softly
leaves shushing each other
dancing with the sun

shhh...listen...
can you hear it?

Clouds

Not unlike spokes of a wheel, shafts
of golden life poke
into and through snow-white cotton.
Pink and purple and blue
bend and bend and flow
into and between snow-white cotton.
Cheeps and chirps and screeches
flap, dart, soar
just below and in snow-white cotton.
Branches, gnarled and slender,
stretch and reach for,
yearn to feel snow-white cotton.
Groggy eyes flicker and squint.
The sun - it's rising.

Martini Glass

The world rings through
sliced in two
sits
on
pool-
ing
stem below

Surrounded

Surrounded
with sea of self-
creation
Water-
falls
of
tapestries
flow from my
fingers
rushing
down
the
walls
of my captivity
splashing to shape the earth
beneath
in ripples
and waves

Early Dawn

The silky mist slowly lifts.
Mountains try to hide the burning
sun, peeking underneath
a cloudless sky.
The awe of early dawn,
So it is in love.

Winter Walk

A     wisp     of     winter     wind

whistles     softly     across     the     whitened     landscape.

Ice-covered     branches

crack     quietly     together,     keeping     clumsy     time.

A     swirling     snowflake

hangs     suspended     in     almost-silence.
