Almost Bloom

Deep within the center of my
heart,
A tiny seed took root.
I never thought it would
survive,
But against the odds it grew.
Every glance, every smile
urged it upward.
With every word and every laugh,
it pressed onward.

Deep within the center of my
heart,
A small rosebud pushed through
All my safeguards and
defenses —
A beautiful sight to view.
It grew with every moment
shared together —
Stirring thoughts and emotions
considered lost forever.

Deep within the center of my
heart,
Stands a rosebud silent.
What once I thought might lead to
love
Now lies in darkness dormant.
You seek another's affection.
Within, it looms
Rigid, fragile, frozen in a sad
state of almost-bloom.
